It is common that lot of people want to lose fat fast. And let’s be honest, today’s society want’s things done fast. It goes a long way to understanding why we have fallen into the fast food trap and put on some extra weight which we now need to lose.

Putting weight on happens quickly but taking it off and be a slow process. But if you know some inside secrets there ways to get your body to lose fat quickly and you can lose 15 pounds fast if you need to.

If you want to want to get some secrets on how to lose weight fast, check out www.bestfastfatloss.com

If you want to lose 15 pounds fast you need to be single minded about it. No midnight snacks, no saying that you’ll start the diet tomorrow, and definitely do not think that just by cutting back on a few calories you can lose 15 pounds fast. Losing 15 pounds fast requires that you stick to a diet and exercise plan. If you can keep up your exercise and diet then you can lose 15 pounds fast.

The Good Foods

I need to stress this one point. To lose 15 pounds fast you need to implement a diet plan that in one way or another cuts some of calories, including cutting back on your favorite fast foods and drinks. It can be hard to cut out your favorite food and drinks but if you don’t you simply won’t lose 15 pounds fast.

To lose weight fast and meet the goals you have set, you don’t need to starve yourself of food and spend each day feeling hungry, deprived and tired. There are lots of foods that you can eat that will fuel your body and help you reach your fat loss goals.

If you want to lose 15 pounds fast here’s a tip. Fill your plate with fruits and vegetables in place of carbohydrates like rice, bread, and pasta. No I’m not saying you should become a vegetarian but if you want to lose 15 pounds fast then this is a proven method.

And just a reminder that you must eat protein with each meal that you eat. Women should try and eat 3 ounces of lean meat like skinless chicken and men can eat 4-5 ounces of lean meat with every meal.

It’s also important to know that protein is found in other sources beside meats. Foods such as cottage cheese are also a healthy source of protein.

When you want to lose 15 pounds fast you must remain disciplined in everything you eat. Unlike trying to lose weight in a more natural way you can’t take any shortcuts. Losing 15 pounds fast means you must stick to the plan.

Without sugar coating (excuse the pun) what needs to be done, you must cut out all alcohol, soda, high sugar foods, limit fats, fast food and reduce the amounts of breads, pastas and rice that you eat. As hard as this sounds, its the first few days that are the hardest, and the best thing that I have seen in a lot of people is that once they get over those few days, they end up cutting those things out of their diets forever meaning they are healthier and can better manage their weight.

Try this tip when faced with sugary treats. Avoid them at all costs. Sugar will undo all the hard work and sacrifices that you make and can set your weight loss regime back to square.

You NEED to Exercise

If you want to lose 15 pounds fast you can’t escape the fact that you will need to exercise. And by exercise I mean a good exercise routine that you do 3-4 times a week.

It’s also important what exercises you actually do because you are trying to lose a high amount of weight in a short time. Cross training your whole body works the best, the yoga can wait for another time!.

A lot of people are worried when they here the words cross-training but don’t let it get to you. People who do cross training find that it’s the best way to lose fat quickly and is more effective than the usual gym routines.

For a review of the best fat loss guides, have a look at www.bestfastfatloss.com/best-fast-fat-loss-guides.php

Try this quick tip. Next time you’re at the gym don’t just run at your normal steady pace on the treadmill. Spend some time on the rowing machine or stationary bike as well.

Give this a go. A mixture of the treadmill, stationary bike and rowing machine, spending 10 to 15 minutes on each. The stair climber is also a great exercise to do.

By changing your normal simple routine you can make an enormous difference in your goal of trying to lose 15 pounds fast. By putting your body through different routines it will get shocked into losing fat.

Cross training together with an improved healthy diet is a surefire way to lose 15 pounds quickly.

There is talk all over the Internet and on television these days about HGH or Human Growth Hormone. Some say it’s a glorious new discovery that can turn back the hands of time, a virtual fountain of youth. Others say that HGH is a dangerous hormone sometimes used by athletes to improve performance but at the risk of their health. How you do you know who to believe?

The truth lies somewhere in between. There is no fountain of youth that will magically take twenty years of aging away, but neither is HGH dangerous or harmful when used properly. In fact, HGH does improve weight loss, encourage development of lean muscle mass and can boost the immune system’s function. The key to successful use of HGH is understanding how it works, why the body needs it and how to avoid the side effects.

A Brief History of HGH

The human body has always produced human growth hormones. HGH isn’t something new or novel. In fact, you couldn’t grow to adulthood or survive for very long at all if your pituitary glands didn’t produce HGH. The reason this hormone has been the focus of research, news reports and lots of Internet chatter is because scientists discovered a way to produce recombinant HGH in the laboratory, making it much more available for medical use. Before this, HGH had to be harvested from the glands of cadavers and use was limited to when it was deemed medically necessary.

Examples of medically necessary use of HGH included stimulating growth in children and teenagers who were obviously not going to reach a normal height on their own. Many doctors also used it to treat Prader-Willi syndrome, an illness characterized by excessive weight gain and short stature. HGH treatments promoted weight loss in these patients, which was essential to improved health, since patients with Prader-Willi invariably become obese as they age.

Is HGH a Fountain of Youth?

During clinical studies of HGH, it was discovered that treatment with this growth hormone also improved lean muscle mass and improved the body’s immune system function. Also noted were improved liver function, increased calcium retention and bone density and the stimulation of improved cell growth, which aided the healing process. This was where the “fountain of youth” tag became mainstream.

The truth is, HGH doesn’t literally make a person younger, but it does give a person a better overall physique, more strength, the ability to recuperate from illnesses and heal from injuries more quickly. All of these traits are those of a younger individual, which is way some see it as a wonderful anti-aging treatment. Think about it – if your bones are less likely to break and you are less likely to get sick than others your age, won’t you feel and act younger?

Is HGH Right for You?

The most important thing to ask yourself when considering using HGH is not how much it costs, how you will be taking it or how much younger you’ll actually feel. You need to find out if HGH is right for you. There are a few instances in which HGH therapy isn’t advised; one of these is if you are diabetic. The changes in insulin levels that sometime accompany the use of HGH can cause complications in diabetics, so it probably isn’t right for you if have diabetes.

There are many instances, however, when HGH is an excellent way to improve your overall health. If you are overweight, HGH can help you lose some of those stubborn fat deposits and retain more lean muscle mass. You’ll not only be improving your appearance, you’ll be improving your overall health, since being obese frequently leads to health problems ranging from high blood pressure to strain on the heart.

HGH is an excellent way to boost your immune system response and improve bone density and strength. If you’re over sixty years old, these are important considerations. HGH can give you a stronger, more reliable body so that you can continue an active, healthy lifestyle much longer. Keep in mind that the older you are, the more the pituitary gland’s production of HGH drops off, so the older you are, the greater the benefit of using HGH.

Ok, in case you didn’t get it the first time, gluteal muscles are your BUNS. Who doesn’t want a tight set of buns when you are showing off at the beach? Well, if you don’t have a tight set, chances are, you won’t be showing off anyways. Heck, a whole industry was built around the concept of buns of steel so you know it is a subject worth delving into.

One of the more recent entries into the world of exercise equipment (in the US anyways) is the kettlebell and it makes a perfect tool for sculpting and toning your glutes. The kettlebell resembles a cannonball except that it has a large oval handle coming out of the top. While it has been used in Russia for hundreds of years, it has just recently been introduced into the US within the last 10 years or so. The principles of physiques are employed while using the kettlebell perhaps more efficiently than with any other exercise in existence. Your whole body works together to move the kettlebell through space in a dynamic compound movement that is designed to exercise your whole body at once. Your core muscles, and of course your gtuteal muscles, get an amazing workout in the process.

So, go grab a kettlebell (15-20 pounder for women and 36-40 pounder for men if you are just beginning) and let’s check out 3 simple movements you can do with a kettlebell to help you build a tight set of gluteal muscles.

Kettlebell Deadlift-Perhaps no other exercise is credited for creating as many perfect buns as the deadlift. A staple lift in powerlifting, the deadlift is an effective move that targets the core and particularly the glutes. The kettlebell deadlift is not much different. Simply squat down and grab the handle with both hands and then stand straight up letting the bell hang down freely in front of you. Then, squat down and put it back on the ground. Work to increase both your weight and your reps as you progress with this exercise.

Kettlebell Swing-This is the foundational movement for the kettlebell and a fantastic total body workout. Start out by squatting down to pick up the bell using both hands. Then, thrust your hips forward while standing up and allowing the bell to swing forward and up to your eye level. Then, allow the bell to swing down again and through your legs. This exercise, while it looks simple, will give your glutes a KILLER workout. Keep this one as the basis of your routine and you will have bulletproof buns in no time.

Kettlebell Clean-Again, because this move require full muscular recruitment and you will start from the squat position, it is an excellent workout that features the glutes as the foundation. This exercise is done by grasping the kettlebell with one hand and powering it up in one motion and bringing the kettlebell to rest on your forearm with your hand tucked under your chin like you are about to throw a punch with your arm tight to your side.

When beginning with any of these exercises, it is wise to seek the advice of a trained kettlebell instructor. While these exercises will make your butt the envy of the beach, no one will see it if you hurt yourself and are laid up. Get the hang of these exercises though and you will have billboard worthy buns in no time at all!

First let’s have a discussion of what cholesterol is and how it affects the body. When you begin to learn how you can become healthier and loss weight through exercise and diet, you will be able to lower you cholesterol and it will become important to check your body’s levels of a fat called triglyceride. You will find that cholesterol and triglyceride are both lipids in your body that will help your body to survive. However if you don’t try to maintain healthy levels of fats in your body, you will be at risk for a heart attack and stroke. At unhealthy levels there are also many other diseases that can attack your body such as diabetes, Kidney problems as well as liver problems.

There are many people who will check with their doctor about their cholesterol levels so that they are able to stay healthy and so the heart can tick stronger than ever. But there are many more that thinks just because they do not hear anything back from the Doctor then everything is OK. This is not always the case as offices can get very busy and phone calls can be forgotten. You will want to inquire about your triglyceride levels because you doctor may not inform you of your personal level.

Triglycerides are tested as part of your cholesterol test and it will be the fourth number that happens to follow the good and bad cholesterol levels and your total cholesterol levels. Unfortunately, medical research has only recently been started on the effects of triglycerides in the blood stream. Usually, there are levels of triglycerides and the levels of bad cholesterol, as well as the good cholesterols. So it is apparent that lower levels of triglycerides are better for your body.

However, it is not yet apparent if triglycerides are contributing to the problems of high LDL cholesterol or if high levels are a symptom of high LDL cholesterol. They are still trying to study this type of problem, but there are doctors who aren’t quite sure on how to recommend treatment for the triglyceride levels. Most of the time, lowering high LDL cholesterol and raising low HDL cholesterol brings triglyceride levels back into a normal range with no additional work. Most of the time this is accomplished through weight loss and exercise although it may require medication in the most extreme cases.

You will find that there are some special cases where there are higher levels of triglycerides that are being treated in patients. You will find that a normal reading of triglyceride is lower than 150. You will also find that anything above the 150 is considered to be high and if you are over 500, then the levels are extremely high and it could be dangerous to your health. Most patients that are being treated for high triglyceride also suffer from syndrome X. The syndrome X is a genetic default that will cause you to have high LDL cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, also hypertension. You may also have abnormal blood clotting and issues with insulin. This is the reason why patients with the syndrome X are at high risk for heart attack.

Now how does exercise help to control these levels? It is a known fact in many circles that exercise burns the fat that is in your body. And what comprises the fat in your body is broken down into the different lipids. There by through exercise you will begin to help the body to break down these lipids in the body to levels that are healthy for you. Also by having a leaner muscle mass it will also help the body to do a better job of breaking down the lipid levels to a more manageable level. Your high triglyceride levels can be easily treated if you lose some weight and exercise. You may also need to get on some medication, although, a diet could be just as helpful. By learning better nutrition you can also help your body to control the levels of your cholesterol and to maintain your weight.

It is important that you keep a good weight loss program and always keep a check on your cholesterol levels. You can do that by talking to your doctor. You will go to your doctor for a simple blood tests and it will measure the lipids in your blood so that you can stay heart-healthy. You will want to also talk to your doctor about changing habits in your diet and exercise routines so that you can life healthy and happy with your ideal weight.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges (the thin lining of tissue covering the brain and spinal cord) caused by an infection of the cerebrospinal fluid. Viral meningitis is relatively common, and is usually mild, and though it can occasionally be life-threatening, it should not be confused with the more severe bacterial meningitis. It is occasionally referred to as ‘aseptic’ meningitis, and can sometimes go undetected because its symptoms can mimic that of the ‘flu.

Some specific viruses are known to cause viral meningitis: specifically mosquito-borne viruses, common intestinal viruses (enteroviruses), and sometimes the herpes simplex virus. The method of transmission depends upon the virus responsible, but person-to-person contact and insect transmission are the usual forms. It tends to be more common in children under the age of five, though it does occur in adults.

What are the symptoms of viral meningitis?
•	Headache
•	Sudden Fever and Chills
•	Severe neck stiffness
•	Tiredness
•	Rash
•	Sore throat
•	Vomiting
•	Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
•	Cognitive changes – infants and young children may appear fretful, or overly lethargic and difficult to rouse; adults may appear confused, drowsy or irritable.

Treatment of Viral Meningitis
There is no appropriate treatment for viral meningitis. Antibiotics are of no use against viral infections. Symptoms usually occur within ten days of infection, and resolve within another 7-10 days. During this period, patients are encouraged to keep high standards of personal hygiene, wash their hands frequently, and family members should avoid contact with the patient’s bodily fluids.

If you’re like me, you probably wish that there was a way for you to lose weight without having to put in much effort, right?

Everyone knows the importance of exercise and how it helps us with weight loss, but on some days don’t we all wish we can just sleep in bed and lose weight at the same time?
Well, I’ve got some great news for you…

Sleep is a critical part of your weight loss program!
This is a little-known fact, but did you know that sleep can affect your weight? Rather, it’s the lack of sleep that can make you put on unnecessary weight. You may actually lose more weight if only you were to sleep more every day. What an intriguing thought, isn’t it?

In a review of several studies examining the impact of sleep on the regulation of metabolism, Dr. Eve Van Cauter, Professor and Research Associate at the University of Chicago, noted that the association between hormones and sleep was identified more than 30 years ago when it was reported that adult men secrete growth hormone during the early phase of sleep. Since then, research has indicated a harmful effect of sleep loss on the endocrine system and glucose modulation.

One study examined the effect of sleep debt and sleep recovery on hormone concentrations and glucose tolerance in healthy males ages 18-27. One week of sleep restriction produced dramatic results: a 30 percent slower response to both the glucose tolerance test and acute insulin response compared with results in rested subjects. Sleep deprivation also raised the 24-hour cortisol profile.

Another study found that sleep deprivation resulted in 30 percent lower levels of leptin. Amazingly, the effect is similar to that observed with caloric restriction (3,000 calories over 3 days), signaling a negative energy balance.

A more recent study examined the effect of 10 vs. 4 hours of sleep on appetite. Subjects who slept 4 hours were always hungry and craved starchy, sweet, and salty foods. These results suggest that sleep deprivation produces a signal mimicking negative energy balance, inducing people to eat and thereby predisposing to obesity.

These results indicate an association between sleep debt and obesity. Sleep deprivation would affect glucose tolerance and leptin levels and increase the appetite for unhealthy foods. She noted that sleep restriction would have greater impact on obese individuals, who have higher leptin levels to begin with, and on older adults.

Dr. Van Cauter also noted that the studies were performed in males only. Because females have higher baseline levels of some hormones (e.g. leptin), sleep restriction might have worse effects in women than in men.

Hey, did you notice the groups which were mentioned specifically in the last 2 paragraphs that may be more severely affected by sleep deprivation? I’ll recap them here again: (1) obese individuals, (2) older adults, and (3) women.

That’s really crucial for us because this means if you’re a woman over 40, not getting enough sleep will probably make you feel hungry constantly and crave for all the unhealthy foods even more as compared to other people. And the more overweight you are, the more you may be affected by the lack of sleep.

Not surprisingly, another study has indeed found an inverse relationship between increased body mass index (BMI) and sleep duration in women. That is, women who do not sleep enough tend to be more overweight than women who get sufficient sleep.

And just in case you still believe in the myth that “Oh, it’s alright because I’ll catch up on my sleep on the weekends”, you should note that Dr. Van Cauter also made the following observation: Sleep debt is generally not paid back fully by weekend sleep. I suppose this is kind of like the saying “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away” — eating 7 apples on Sunday instead of 1 a day just isn’t going to give you the same results!

Now, I’m _not_ saying that you don’t have to exercise and all you have to do to lose weight is to sleep it off. Exercise, strength training and physical activities in general are vital components of a permanent weight loss program.

It’s simply that if you don’t sleep enough, you’ll just be making it more difficult for yourself to lose the extra weight. There’s no point in sabotaging your chances of weight loss success if it’s a simple matter of making sure you get enough sleep every night, right? I mean, how much easier can it get?

According to William Dement, Stanford University sleep researcher, adults need about 8 hours of sleep a night. Try your best to get this amount every day, and you’ll reduce one more obstacle in your path to attaining your desired ideal weight. Simple idea, isn’t it?

“Hurricane Katrina Causes Diabetes” may soon be a real headline. This article will explain what you need to know before you or someone you know are unpleasantly surprised.

Though the debate still continues as to the exact cause, Type 1 diabetes (having to use insulin) is thought to be the result of an inappropriate autoimmune response in the body. What apparently happens is that the body attacks the Beta cells of the pancreas believing them to be invaders. These insulin-producing cells are therefore destroyed to a significant degree and “Hey Presto! Instant Diabetes”.

Type 2 diabetes (not needing insulin) is caused by insulin resistance which is generally the result of obesity though now there is a blurring of boundaries between Type 1 and 2.
Now, with the above in mind, the question is, how the heck could a hurricane cause diabetes? Well, regarding Type 1 diabetes a theory that may prove correct or incorrect is that an autoimmune response may be precipitated by on going stress of such intensity that the inflammation caused by chronically high levels of cortisol leads to an immune system malfunction.

However, regarding Type 2 diabetes I think there is a very clear and direct connection. For the sake of brevity I will not cover all pertinent details because the purpose of this article is to convey an idea that may be worth considering.

So, “Hurricane Katrina Causes Diabetes” may be a reality when you look at two groups of persons. First, are those directly affected. Many people, when stressed sufficiently, will eat more than they need. I am willing to bet that over the next 5 years, if the direct victims are tracked, many of them will become obese and get diabetes; even those without a genetic predisposition.

The second group are those who, though not directly involved with the disaster, are vicariously involved to the point where they begin to gain significant amounts of weight due to poorly managed stress.

Both groups may also, to some degree, be affected by a type of hyper-vigilance that creates an on going ‘fight or flight’ response that can lead to insulin resistance. Untreated insulin resistance not only can lead to diabetes but, to its corollary, hyperinsulinemia which is also very dangerous.

So, what is an answer? For both groups, effective stress management tools are a must. I believe that being taught self-hypnosis is the best, most cost-effective answer. If insurance companies want to save a lot of money over the next decade then it is definitely in their best interests to somehow get their insured clients strongly involved in stress reduction classes.

Stress reduction may also mitigate some of the potential harmful, autoimmune responses that Katrina may induce in those who are susceptible.
If these ideas are taken to heart, maybe the headlines might read: “Katrina Almost Caused Diabetes”.

Ever wonder how medicines for ADHD might affect your child? Read on and get the scoop on what’s currently being prescribed as well as the side effects involved.

Studies show that children with ADHD lack sufficient neurotransmitters in the brain. This deficiency is responsible for the characteristic inattention and lack of focus in ADHD patients. These neuro chemicals include dopamine, serotonin, norephinephrine, opioids and gama amino butyric acid, or BAGA for short. The ADHD med serves to replace the deficient chemicals.

As to the medicines for ADHD, stimulants are usually administered first, and if found to be ineffective or not well tolerated, antidepressants are prescribed. Stimulants are further classified as short, intermediate and long acting medications.

Long acting stimulants are taken once a day, and generally last 8-12 hours. This is useful for children in school as they don’t have to remember to take their pill during the day. There are several long acting stimulants commonly used today, as described below.

Vyvanse is the latest ADHD med to be approved. It is similar to Adderall in that its main ingredient, lisdexamfetamine dimesylate, is a derivative of one of the ingredients in Adderall. Vyvanse, which produces a calming effect, is taken once a day in the morning. It is currently available in 30mg, 50mg, and 70mg capsules.

Adderall XR, a sustained release form of Aderall, is approved for use in children over the age of 6 years. Available in 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 25mg, and 30mg capsules, the capsule can be opened and sprinkled onto food or in a drink if the child has difficulty swallowing pills. Regular Adderall is usually prescribed for children from 3 to 5 years of age.

Concerta, a central nervous system stimulant, is approved for children over the age of 6 years. It is a sustained release form of Ritalin. Concerta is formulated to work for 12 hours, and is available in 18mg, 27mg, 36mg and 54mg tablets. Teens requiring a 72mg dose can take 2 36mg tablets.

Daytrana, also known as the Ritalin patch, is available in 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, and 30mg dosages. The patches are worn for approximately 9 hours at a time on the child’s hip. The medication continues to work a few more hours after the patch is removed.

Focalin XR is a long acting form of Focalin, with the active ingredient dexmethylphenidate hydrocholoride, which is also found in Ritalin. It is available in 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, and 20mg capsules, which can be opened and sprinkled on food if necessary for ingestion.

Ritalin LA is a new, sustained release form of Ritalin. It is prescribed to increase attention, decrease impulsiveness, and decrease hyperactivity. This medication is a mild stimulant that affects the levels of neurotransmitters in the nervous system. Ritalin LA is available in 10, 20, 30, and 40mg capsules. Some brands allow the capsule to be opened and sprinkled onto food. Ask your pharmacist if the brand you’re taking fits in this category.

The short and intermediate acting stimulants are older medications. These include Ritalin and Ritalin SR, Methylin, Metadate ER, Methylin ER, Focalin, Dexedrine, Dextrostat and Aderall.

Strattera is the main non stimulant medicine approved for use in treating children with ADHD. Although not as commonly prescribed as stimulants, Strattera does have a place for those who can’t tolerate stimulants. Strattera is helpful for children with ADHD and anxiety.

Medicines for ADHD, as well as all prescription drugs, have side effects that must be considered when deciding on an ADHD med. Each medication will list its own specific side effects, but in general, side effects from stimulants include decreased appetite, headaches, stomachaches, trouble falling asleep, jitteriness, and social withdrawal. Some of the known side effects associated with Strattera include stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, or mood changes.

Make no mistake about it, when you read the list of potential side effects associated with medicines for ADHD or any other condition, it’s no wonder that homeopathic remedies have become extremely popular. In treating ADHD, natural remedies make up for the chemical shortages naturally, whereas drugs typically use man made ingredients not naturally found in the body. Homeopathic remedies manufactured in an FDA approved facility, under the guidance of a qualified professional, are a safe and highly effective alternative to drug therapy.

Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX) announced today that President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jim Tobin will retire from the Company, and that its board of directors has appointed Ray Elliott the new President and CEO, effective July 13.

“Ten years ago this month, I began my tenure as CEO of Boston Scientific, and two months from now, I will turn 65,” said Tobin. “Over the course of the past decade, we have built a stronger, more diversified company that is well positioned for the future. We have achieved this due largely to the support of our employees, customers and investors, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them. Now is an appropriate time for me to turn over the leadership of the Company to Ray Elliott, our new CEO. Ray is an outstanding choice, and he has my full and enthusiastic support. We will have a smooth transition, which will culminate with Ray taking over next month.”

“The board accepts Jim’s decision to retire with understanding and enormous gratitude,” said Pete Nicholas, Chairman of the Board of Boston Scientific. “Jim led Boston Scientific through a period of tremendous growth and diversification that transformed the Company. Thanks to his leadership and the efforts of thousands of Boston Scientific employees, our Company has strengthened its position as a worldwide leader in less-invasive medicine. More important, while Jim has been CEO, Boston Scientific has helped improve the lives of millions of patients. On behalf of the board, I would like to recognize and thank Jim for these and so many other accomplishments.”

Elliott, 59, has more than 35 years of experience leading health care and consumer products companies. He led the orthopedics company Zimmer Holdings Inc. for 10 years, joining the company as President and rising to become Chairman, President and CEO. Prior to joining Zimmer, he served as President and CEO of Cybex International Inc., a medical rehabilitation and cardiovascular products company. He has also served as President and Chairman of various divisions of Southam Inc., a communications group, and as Group President of the food and beverage company John Labatt Ltd. He began his career in the health care industry with American Hospital Supply Corp. – now Baxter International Inc. – where he served for 15 years in sales, marketing, operations, business development and general management positions, leading to his appointment as President of all the Far East divisions, based in Tokyo. He has also served on a number of boards, including AdvaMed, where he was chair of its orthopedics sector. He was a member of the Boston Scientific board of directors from 2007 until earlier this year. In addition to serving as President and CEO of Boston Scientific, he will rejoin the board. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.

During Elliott’s leadership of Zimmer, sales and market capitalization quadrupled. Sales increased from approximately $1 billion in 1997 to approximately $4 billion in 2007. Elliott oversaw taking Zimmer public in 2001, with an initial market capitalization of approximately $5 billion. At the time of his departure in 2007, the company’s market capitalization was more than $20 billion. In 2005 he was named “Best CEO in America” for Health Care (Medical Supplies and Devices), by Institutional Investor magazine.

“We are delighted that Ray will be joining us as only the third CEO of Boston Scientific,” said Nicholas. “His long and proven track record in leadership positions has prepared him well for this role. Ray is an extremely capable leader with extensive experience running global health care companies. We have gotten to know Ray well as a leader and colleague in the industry, as well as from his service on our board. We are confident he offers the right combination of experience, results and talents for Boston Scientific going forward.”

“As chair of the search committee, I had the opportunity to review a number of strong candidates, and Ray stood out convincingly as our top choice,” said Ernest Mario, Ph.D., a member of the Company’s board of directors. “His experience and success leading large, complex, international companies – coupled with his specific expertise in medical devices – made him the clear selection to be Boston Scientific’s new CEO. We are very pleased that Ray will be assuming the leadership of the Company.”

“It’s an honor to follow Pete and Jim as the CEO of Boston Scientific, a company with great products and technologies, a rich pipeline creating substantial future growth potential, and of course, outstanding people,” said Elliott. “I look forward to leading the Boston Scientific team and building on the impressive tradition of delivering innovative medical solutions to patients and physicians. I am committed, as always, to creating value for them, our employees and our shareholders.”

Mr. Tobin and Mr. Elliott will host an investor conference call at 9:00 a.m. (ET) today. The Company will webcast the call to all interested parties through its website: www.bostonscientific.com. Please see the website for details on how to access the webcast. The webcast will be available for one year on the Boston Scientific website.

MEDai, Inc., a leading provider of predictive analytic solutions headquartered in Orlando, FL, announced today that Geisinger Health Plan, one of its premier clients, has significantly reduced hospital admissions and found savings opportunities through its Medical Home initiative which leverages MEDai’s Risk Navigator Clinical(R) predictive modeling solution. Geisinger dropped hospital admissions by approximately 15%, positively influencing medical expense for Medicare populations.

Utilizing MEDai’s award-winning predictive analytics, the health plan is able to arm nurse case managers with patient risk panels that clearly identify those patients upon whom interventions would have the greatest impact. “With risk scores, we identify patients by site, practice and provider, and our nurses can then see them in person and by telephone, and get them into a more regular routine of care,” said Janet Tomcavage, RN, MSN, Vice President of Health Services at Geisinger. “Risk Navigator Clinical drives cooperation between plan, provider and case manager,” she added.

With Risk Navigator Clinical, MEDai is achieving its goal of helping insurers and healthcare managers to improve clinical outcomes, operational results and financial returns through advanced knowledge. The system bridges the gap between the random and highly individualized nature of member populations and the insight needed for better efficiency, favorable revenues and improved health protection. The solution identifies characteristics and patterns in groups, drilling down to individuals. Geisinger’s experience has been captured in a case study currently available through MEDai’s website (www.medai.com). The study takes an in-depth look at how this leading health plan established its Medical Home program and leveraged MEDai’s technology and business intelligence to improve quality and reduce costs.

About MEDai

MEDai, Inc. is a leading health information company offering award-winning solutions for the improvement of healthcare delivery.
